This is hand-harvested Nebbiolo from twenty-year-old vines, which is fermented and aged exclusively in stainless steel tanks, in order to showcase a pure expression of the fruit. Gavarini, especially, is a vineyard that produces Nebbiolo with absolutely gorgeous aromatics. In the glass, the wine is a limpid crimson, seemingly illuminated from within, with rose-red flashes towards the edge. Amarena cherries, dried rose petals, wild strawberry preserves, and white tobacco emerge on the nose, as the wine spends time in the glass, alternating with cocoa powder, damson plums, porcini mushrooms, and red licorice. On the palate, the wine is polished and precise, with persistent dark red fruit flavors that echo the nose, adding suggestions of rhubarb, red currants, clove, and dried orange peel.
